Ecotourism summer spree in Silay
BACOLOD
CITY, March 11 (PNA) –The Silay Tourism Office is now preparing a summer
break for nature lovers through its “Ecotourism Summer Spree in Silay’
that will open Wednesday (March 10) in two areas, Brgy. Balaring and
Brgy. Patag.
Mari Kurata, Ikaw-Ako Japan-Negros Partnership for
Environmental Protection coordinator, said that the Mangrove
Rehabilitation Program in Balaring offers a 600-meter walk on Bamboo
Bridge under the mangrove canopy.
Excursionists and mangrove enthusiasts will be accommodated
in a guided tour on ecosystem and can avail of rest houses and the
“Lantawan”, a bamboo-nipa tower serving as view deck.
Participants from schools can also organize mangrove
memorial planting by buying seedlings and asking assistance from
Balaring Mangrove Planters’ Association. Guests may have lunch at the
string of Balaring sea food restaurants.
Patag camping and trekking activities are facilitated by Leo
Canson and processing of permits and fees are done at the Silay City
Tourism Office.
For groups and organizations, the old hospital building
which serves as the rest and recreation area could be converted into an
accommodation center.
Trekkers going to Pulang Tubig and Dumalabdab waterfalls and
Tinagong Dagat will be officially accompanied by members of the
Bantay-Bukid Brigade.
Ver Pacete, tourism officer of Silay, said that mini lecture
series on ecotourism program could be facilitated by the Silay City
Tourism Office in coordination with the Dept. of Agriculture. (PNA)
